Let’s see, autumn in Finland: Dark long days? Quietness? Depressing nights? Suicidal behaviour? No way, those gloomy thoughts are not happening when The Capital Beat bring their rhythm. The eight-piece orchestra has felt the reggae and done the ska since 2007, taking Jamaican music to a new latitude. The band just released their long-awaited first full-length, A Greater Fire, and here is a song off that album. Can you feel it?

The autumn season has just started so it is a good time to remember one of those albums that feel just right for a rainy day. Earlier this year, Cats on Fire released their second full length album Our Temperance Movement, which includes a bunch of bittersweet lyrics and melancholic pop melodies that perfectly fit with the season.
Synthesizer superheroes Keke and Ana bring JESSE back with a new single that it is part Kraftwerk part AOR with a closing guitar solo which could be the soundtrack of any television hit from the eighties. “Slurps!” can already be heard on the duo’s myspace page and it will be released as a 12-inch maxisingle on 14 October. The song is also included on JESSE’s second album TUM TUM TUM that will be in stores in November to be followed by touring next year.
If you want to hear Finnish music, you must come to Tampere in October and get lost in music. Over 80 artists will perform on 12 different venues during the four days that the Lost In Music showcasing music festival lasts. Celebrated at the same time as the industry gathering Music & Media, in Tampere you will find it all: famous artists, newcomers, metal, pop, electronica, rock… there is not a better way to take a glimpse at the current Finnish popular music, from Abduktio to Zebra & Snake. The list of artists and bands for this year’s even has just been released while the full programme and the ticket sales will follow shortly.

Kaspar went all the way to Kingston, New York, very close to Woodstock, to record with American producer Malcolm Burn their debut album, which is inspired by the enigma of Kaspar Hauser, a 19th century German foundling who after 15 years of total isolation in darkness became a symbol of empathy and forgiveness after his mysterious appearance in Nurenberg in 1828. A few months ago, we had the opportunity of hearing the first single off Astrid Swan’s new album. It was an invigorating pop tune that anticipated some fun times for the singer and indeed, that is the case of Better Than Wages, her new album, which you can already find at your favourite record store and at the regular digital outlets. After a dramatic and emotionally charged second album (Spartan Picnic, 2008), Better Than Wages is a fun collection of pop songs that tell everyday life stories.
